Week 1: Update

So, it’s been one whole week since my 10 To Win! journey has begun. I can honestly say that I wasn’t so sure how successful I would be. I’ve been home alone since Tuesday, with no one to really watch me make healthy choices (except for the fur babies and what do they care?). I haven’t been to the gym yet. I haven’t started Weight Watchers yet. The only thing I have been doing right is making healthier food choices.

A week ago I weighed myself at my parent’s house. Since losing pounds isn’t my goal here, I will not tell you how much the starting weight was… for now. Instead I will tell you that it was not a happy number but I digress.

Whaaaaat?!My unhappy surprise

Fast forward to Friday (day 6 of 10 To Win!) and I’m starting to notice something I haven’t seen in awhile… my collarbone. Naturally this puts a little pep in my step! I can’t believe my eyes. There’s my collar bone! MY COLLARBONE! I promise myself that first thing Saturday morning, weigh in day, I was going to get up and get it over with.

Wanna know how much I lost? A whopping 4.8 pounds! Woot!

Sexy time! Borat approves this.

Yummy Yummy Pasta!

While grocery shopping today, I came up with this great recipe for a pasta dish. Since it would end up being a low-fat meal I decided to try it out and share it with all of you.

Yummy Yummy Pasta TM Yummy Yummy Pasta

Here is everything you’ll need to make this delicious dish!

The ingredients! The ingredients: Fresh mushrooms, fresh zucchini, bowtie pasta, chili powder, extra virgin olive oil, roasted garlic & herb seasoning, red wine vinegar, and feta.

First, you start off by boiling the pasta (I used half a box in this case). Be sure to add a splash of olive oil! Next, you can start sautéing the mushrooms and zucchini while the pasta cooks (I used one whole zucchini and half of a carton of mushrooms). In a small pan, add your mushrooms and zucchini (I chose to slice mine- you can slice, dice, chop, whatever you want with yours), along with 2 Tbsp. of olive oil, and your chili powder and roasted garlic & herb seasoning. (I don’t measure out my seasonings. Ever. I always add to taste) You can also add salt & pepper if you’d like. Allow your veggies to sauté for approximately 10 minutes on medium heat. You want just enough time and heat to wilt them, not scorch them. After your pasta is finished, be sure to drain to water. We’re making a delicious dish here not a soup! Put the pasta in a separate bowl. Add another Tbsp or so of olive oil to the pasta, as well as your red wine vinegar. (This is another ingredient that I do not measure- it’s always to taste) Be sure to toss the pasta so that the oil and vinegar coats it. Next, add your veggies. Feel free to toss in a pinch or two more of the chili powder and roasted garlic & herb seasoning as well as salt & pepper. To finish, sprinkle in a bit of feta! This can be served either immediately or chilled if you prefer.

Enjoy! And please tell me what you think about Yummy Yummy Pasta!

The Temptations

There are a few food items that I absolutely can not live without. They are the most yummy, deliciousness around. So creamy and tasteful, they are sure to bring a smile to my face. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you… The Temptations.

There is one other item not pictured above (only because I already ate it prior to starting this blog). So, I had to search the web and find a suitable photo of it. Behold, Mr. Sour Cream.

Now, I realize that all of these temptations are available in low-fat, non-fat, or smaller portions. But as a lifetime member of The Temptations fan club, I do not know how to limit my love for them. I guess that’s one of those things that I’ll have to learn along this journey to a healthier me.
